Running Shoe (Lisa's Pledge Page)

I am writing to tell you about some very exciting news! I recently registered with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s TEAM IN TRAINING (TNT) to run the Dallas half marathon (13.1 miles) on May 18, 2003. I am extremely thrilled about uniting my passion for running with an opportunity to support a great cause.

As many of you know, I was in training for a full marathon almost two years ago. Unfortunately, I was unable to complete the training or the race due to a back injury. After six (plus) months of physical therapy I was slowly able to start running again. Since that time I have not been able to find the time or the discipline to get myself back into a regular running routine.

The more I learned about TNT, the more I realized not only is this an awesome program, this is also what will get me motivated to get back into training. Through The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s TNT program, I will have a coach, a training regimen, and the support of a great group of athletes with a common goal . . . to raise money to support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in its battle against leukemia.

Additionally, when all else fails inspiration and motivation will come from my Honored Heroes—Elizabeth, Jacob, Jonathan, Tommy & Kaleb. These five children have all been diagnosed with ALL (acute Lymphocytic Leukemia) and are currently undergoing various stages of treatment. I am also running for my dear father-in-law, Richard, who has been diagnosed with CLL (chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) as well as a friend at work, Brad, who survived Hodgkin’s Lymphoma six years ago. The challenges I have yet to face are nothing compared to what these individuals, their families and so many others face on a daily basis. I have started to wear a hospital wristband bearing all of their names as a reminder of the significance of my commitment.

On behalf of Elizabeth, Jacob, Jonathan, Tommy, Kaleb, Richard, Brad and the Leukemia Society, I challenge you and ask you to contribute to TNT. Over 75% of my personal goal of $1,500 will go back to The Society for research, patient services, advocacy and education. Please fill out the enclosed pledge form and return to me in the envelope provided. The amount of your contribution is up to you—no amount is too great or small.

Thank you so much for supporting me in my efforts and for supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I will keep you updated on my training progress and if you have any questions, please call me or email me.
